LGCraft Luthiery School 2011 schedule:
We are expanding our program with the addition of several new courses in effort to increase the learning potential of each student. The careful selection of each class topic was based on enlightened conversations between the teachers as well as feedback and suggestions from various students.
Teachers: Ari Lehtela and Bil Jones, class 1 thru 6. Tom McClellan, class 7. Class 8 and the Master Class will be one-on-one with Ari Lehtela.
Class 1 - Intro to Guitar Maintenance
This one-time 2 hour class will commenceJan 22nd . This class will be offered again Jan 29th.
Requirements:
Student will need to bring at least one guitar ( or bass) with them them to the class for evalution and teaching purposes.
Class size: maximum of 4 students
Time and Place: 1 - 3 pm at The Music Center, 940 E Franklin Blvd., Gastonia , NC.
Class 2a - Basic Guitar Setups
Class 2A will commence Feb 5th. This class will be offered again Feb 19th and 26th.
Requirements:
Class 2a PREREQUISITE: completion of Class 1.
REQUIREMENT: Student will need bring the guitar evaluated and then chosen for set up work in class 1.
Class size: maximum of 4 students
Time and Place: 1 - 5 pm at The Music Center, 940 E Franklin Blvd., Gastonia , NC.
Class 2b - Advanced Guitar Setups
Class 2B will commence Mar 11th . This class will be offered again Mar 25th.
Requirements:
Class 2b PREREQUISITE: completion of Class 1 and Class 2a.
REQUIREMENT: Student will need bring the guitar evaluated and then chosen for set up work in class 2a.
Class size: maximum of 4 students
Time and Place: 1 - 5 pm at The Music Center, 940 E Franklin Blvd., Gastonia , NC.
Class 3 - Fret Level, Crown, and Polishing
This class will be approximately 6 hours in total length and will be take place on the following weekends: April 14th/15th and April 28th/29th as the alternative.
Requirements:
Class 3 PREREQUISITE: completion of Class 1, Class 2a and b.
REQUIREMENT: Student will bring the instrument discussed class 2 or otherwise approved by the teacher for the purposes of fret levelling.
Class size: maximum of 2 students
Time and Place: 1 to 4 pm on both afternoons at the Music Center in Gastonia.
Class 4- Guitar Nut and Saddle Making
This 4 hour class will be offered in the month of May. Following shows commencement dates: Nut Making: May 6th . Saddle Making: May 20th
Requirements:
Class 4 PREREQUISITE: completion of Class 1 through Class 3.
REQUIREMENT: Student will bring instrument approved by teacher beforehand.
Class size: maximum of 2 students
Time and Place: 1 to 5 pm at The Music Center in Gastonia
Class 5 - Guitar Refretting
This 8 hour class will be offered in the month of June. It is a two-day class offered on the following weekend afternoons: June 9th/10th and June 23rd/24th as the alternate
Requirements:
Class 5 PREREQUISITE: completion of Class 1 through Class 4.
REQUIREMENT: Student will bring instrument approved by teacher beforehand.
Class size: maximum of 2 students
Time and Place: 1 to 5pm each afternoon at The Music Center in Gastonia
Class 6 - Guitar Wiring/ Electronics
This 4 hour class will be offered in the month of July. It will commence on July 8th with July 22nd as alternate option
Requirements:
Class 6 PREREQUISITE: completion of Class 1 through Class 5.
REQUIREMENT: Student will need to bring a guitar and electronic components to be wired.
Class size: maximum of 2 students
Time and Place: 1 to 5 pm at The Music Center in Gastonia August 2011,
Summer Recess August (and September for those not going on to guitar building phase at this point)
Class 8 - Guitar Building Intro
This is class that begins the Guitar Building part of the program. It will be taught by Ari Lehtela. The schedule ( date and time ) of this pivate instruction class will be discussed between the student and Ari Lehtela during the recess after the conclusion of Class 6.
Requirements:
Class 8 PREREQUISITE: completion of Class 1 through Class 6. Class 7 is OPTIONAL.
REQUIREMENT: Student will consult with Ari Lehtela in the months preceeding the class to discuss the proposed instrument to be built. The design will be approved or modified by the teacher to meet basic principles of acoustics and sound guitar design. Also taken into consideration will be the student's skill level, access to personal woodworking shop and tools, and budget.
Class size: Private Instruction.
Time and Place: Time and schedule will be discussed between potential student and Ari Lehtela.
Available months will be September thru November.

This is the continuation of class 8. The master class is the actual building of the previously approved student design.
Requirements:
MASTER CLASS PREREQUISITE: completion of Class 1 through Class 6. Class 7 is OPTIONAL. Student will consult with Ari Lehtela within class 8 to finalize all details regarding schedule, requirements and tuition.
Please go to the Tuition section in regards to the cost of the classes. Also note that all classes can also be scheduled in a private one-on-one session with Ari Lehtela or Bil Jones. There will be additional charge for this service which is also detailed within the Tuition page. A final note: If you have interest in learning about a luthiery discipline outside of the existing curriculum please let us know so we can discuss the possibility of offering as a class or directing you otherwise. We have offered ' specialty topic ' classes in the past ( inlay, finish touch up , etc ) and will continue to do so.
